LAURINBURG, NC (WMBF) – Three men have been arrested and charged with murder, among other charges, after a 15-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the Laurinburg area and killed.
According to the Laurinburg Police Department, 15-year-old Amming Tyrek Harrison was walking along Maple Street near Oak Street with three other people on Saturday, January 18 at about 9:24 p.m. when a white Lincoln approached them and started shooting.
The other three ran from the scene before police arrived to find Harrison with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital where he died on Sunday, January 19.
Police later learned that another person in the group had been shot but did not seek treatment. Police identify him as 17 year old Dyrek Jamar McDonald and explained he fled the scene because of warrants out for his arrest.
"There were warrants on him, he didn't seek treatment that night. We went out Saturday night to seek McDonald and got him treatment and the warrants were served," said Laurinburg Police Chief Darwin Williams, pointing out McDonald is now cooperating with police to an extent.
On Monday, January 20, officers obtained a warrant on 20-year-old Johnny D. Williams, of Laurinburg, charging him with Obstruction of Justice. Williams was arrested on Wednesday, January 22.
On Thursday, January 23, Williams was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, felony conspiracy, injury to personal property, and discharging a firearm from an occupied vehicle.
Also on Thursday, 20-year-old Eddie McLaurin III and 21-year-old Shaquille Juwan Deberry, both from Laurinburg, were booked on the same charges. McLaurin III was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
All three are currently being held in the Scotland County Jail with no bond.
