HARTSVILLE, S.C. (WMBF) - For the second straight year, the Darlington Falcons upended the top-ranked Hartsville boys basketball team in its home arena by a 60-58 final on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons jumped out to a 60-54 lead with time winding down and held off a comeback by the Red Foxes to seal the win.
Frankie Johnson led the Falcons with 19 points, while Chris Hooks had 14 points for Darlington. LaKeith Ingram collected 23 points and ten boards for the Red Foxes.
Last year, the Falcons also beat the top-ranked Red Foxes in Hartsville. However, Hartsville won their other regular season matchup, and beat the Falcons in the Lower State Championship en route to becoming state champs. The two teams square off in Darlington on February 8th.
The Hartsville girls team beat Darlington earlier in the day by a 53-38 final. Jordan Dawson had 14 points for the Red Foxes while Waynetta Johnson added ten.
