CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - At 11-5 so far this season, the Lady Tiger basketball team is experiencing great success for the first time in recent memory. While LaShonda Greene has been a big contributor to that, she is more satisfied with how all of her teammates have handled themselves.
"It seems like everybody plays with their hearts," said Greene. "We all try. I've been playing with most of them since middle school because I've been playing travel ball."
"The main thing is for them to have success," explained Conway head coach Shamae Hemingway. "And now they understand 'Ok I have to put in the work to be successful'. And they're starting to understand that."
While team chemistry makes things a bit easier, Greene has become grateful whenever she steps on the floor. Having not been to the playoff in her high school career, and missing out by one game last season, she knows to make the most of every game, while trying to get wins.
"My teammates," she said. "Being able to play with them and coming together as a team...it's like a family."
One of the soft-spoken leaders of this year's group, last year it became a goal of hers to make this the best team Conway has seen in years.
"She's one of the ones that made a true commitment," Hemingway continued. "She said she wanted to play ball and get better. So they were able to play this summer and they did that."
Conway's next game is Friday as region play starts. The Lady Tigers will play at Sumter at 6:00.
