Horry County school officials are struggling to come up with a plan to manage growth in the region, especially the Carolina Forest area.
Each proposed plan to deal with the overcrowded schools has been met with upset parents. And that's no surprise, because any decision to change school attendance zones is going to upset somebody. However, many of the suggestions, including moving sixth graders back to elementary schools or shifting students to schools that were much further away made absolutely no sense.
Finally, after looking at new data, the school system is considering building new schools. That's what needs to happen. With the additional revenue from a special tax referendum approved in 2008, there is sufficient funding to develop these new facilities. That's a plan that the majority of parents and students will support.
