LORIS, SC (WMBF) - Two schools in the Loris area are teaming up, shooting hoops and raising money to help heal one of their own.

Alanna Ford is a third-grader at Daisy Elementary School. She was diagnosed with leukemia and will be traveling to MUSC's Children's Hospital for treatments.

To raise money for her medical expenses, staff and parents from Daisy Elementary challenged the staff and parents at Loris Middle School - the school Alanna's older brother attends - to a friendly basketball game.

The game was on Thursday, January 16 at 6 p.m. in the Loris Middle School gym.

Splash, the mascot for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and Sharkie from Ripley's Aquarium were there to cheer each team on as they raised money for Alanna and her family.

During halftime there was a raffle, a 50/50 cash prize, restaurant gift certificates up for grabs, and a silent auction. In total, the schools raised nearly $2,000 toward Alanna's medical expenses.
