One hurt in Myrtle Beach shooting

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police detectives are working to learn more about a shooting near Third Avenue North Tuesday afternoon.

The shot was fired near the meeting of Third Avenue North and North Myrtle Street just after 3:30 p.m. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police report states the man that was shot was in his yard when a man with a gun began to demand money from him.

He initially refused but forked over between $40 and $60 after the gunman fired one shot into the ground.

After he walked away, and turned down another demand for money, the man was shot in the leg.

The alleged shooter ran off after the man flagged down a passing car to come to his aid.

Detectives are still working to determine who may be responsible. The victim described the shooter as wearing a dark gray or blue sweater, a red hat and possibly blue jeans.
