NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The North Myrtle Beach City Council met yesterday, January 6. The council members passed several ordinances while Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented a Proclamation identifying January as "Gun Safety Month" in North Myrtle Beach.

Mayor Hatley along with Chip and Mylissa Bellamy of The Matthew Bellamy Project encouraged adults to educate children about the proper safety behavior around guns, and to remind adults to be responsible for the proper unloading and storage of firearms. The project was founded after their 11 year old son was accidentally shot and killed by his friend. To learn more about the Matthew Bellamy Project, visit www.thematthewbellamyproject.com.
