Florence redistricting plan up for review

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Florence is holding a series of public meetings so people can comment on new lines drawn for the city's three city council districts.

The districts are being redrawn because two districts lost population while a third gained voters as a result of the 2010 census. The first of the three meetings is being held on Tuesday night. The second is Thursday while a third is being held next Monday.

City officials say the new districts were drawn in an effort to keep the districts contiguous and preserve communities of common interest as well as trying to avoid splitting voting precincts.
