5,000 without electricity in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WMBF) - More than 5,000 customers are without power in South Carolina as cold weather settles in the state.

Duke Energy reported nearly 4,000 customers without service in western South Carolina early Tuesday.

South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. reported about 1,400 customers without service in central and southern South Carolina.

The state-owned utility Santee Cooper reported about 200 customers without service in the North Myrtle Beach area as of 7:50 a.m.
