Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to hold MLK Freedom Rally

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The sixth annual Freedom Rally honoring Martin Luther King Jr. will be held in Myrtle Beach, from January 18- 20.

The Freedom Rally will begin on Jan.18 and will start at 9 a.m. The purpose of this rally is to promote a call for community service in the area. There will be an award banquet, workshops, a freedom rally parade, and other events.

According to a Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce press release:

" The three days of activities are fantastic, with the workshops that encourage business development and partnering, as well as the Carolina Talent Search and all the young people who will be singing in tribute to Dr. King," said Bennie Swans, chairman of the Carolina African American Heritage Foundation. "We are so pleased with the diversity of faith organizations and businesses that are a part of it."

Brad Dean, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, states that "Dr. King's life and mission continue to be just as important today as it was 50 years ago,"

    CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A jet ski collision near the Red Bluff Boat Landing in Conway on Saturday left one man dead, according to the Horry County Coroner's Office. Martin Dale McDaniel, 50, was rushed to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. Saturday evening.  An autopsy is reportedly scheduled for Sunday.  The Department of Natural Resources continues to investigate.
