The American Red Cross Coastal SC Chapter has responded to six home fires since Saturday assisting 22 people in Andrews, Conway, Myrtle Beach and Williamsburg County. The Red Cross met the immediate needs of these individuals which for most included emotional support and financial assistance for lodging, food and clothing. Comfort kits with personal hygiene items were also provided as well as referrals to local partnering agencies. Red Cross will continue to following-up with those affected by the fires says Nanci Conley, executive director, Coastal SC Chapter, American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region.
"Our hearts go out to all those who suffered from these home fires, said Conley "We are in our peak season for home fires and temperatures will be dropping in the coming days, so we urge everyone to become aware of what they should do to prevent a fire in their home by visiting RedCross.org for safety steps."
It takes an average $1,250 for Red Cross to support a family of four impacted by fire. The Red Cross' Coastal SC Chapter needs the support of the community to provide assistance to families impacted by fire.
