Sports tourism, road projects top Grand Strand goals in 2014

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – While some New Year's goals never change, like getting in better shape or saving money, some people in the Grand Strand have goals they want accomplished for the entire area before 2014 wraps up.

"Finish the backgate," wrote Jim Saunders on the WMBF News Facebook fanpage. Jim wasn't alone, Tonya Williams and others wanted to see big road projects wrapped up before January 1, 2015. With an expected completion date in August of this year for the Backgate project, Jim may get his wish.

"We're really excited about the sports tourism industry that's moving into town," said Rich Trio. Rich runs his own vacation rental company, he said having year-round sporting events can help his small business grow.

"You're got the new complex opening up in North Myrtle Beach," he said, "which has soccer, baseball, and lacrosse."
