GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - Georgetown Hospital System is sponsoring two events this January to ensure the local community gets a healthy start in 2014. A blood drive will be held at WaccamawCommunity Hospital Friday, Jan. 3. A regional health screening will take place Friday, January 17 from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
The blood drive will occur from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Wachesaw Conference Center, Suite160, on Riverwood Drive across from the hospital in Murrells Inlet.Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome. The health screening on January 17 will offer both free and priced screenings. The free screenings will include blood pressure, osteoporosis, hearing, vision, blood sugar, oral cancer and body mass index.
Screenings that are offered for a fee include chemistry- blood panel with lipid profile, those cost $20 and require a 10-12 hour fast; a complete blood count, which costs $20; a thyroid screening for $15; diabetes (hemoglobin A1C) for $15, and a Prostate-Specific Antigen for men, for $15.
