GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – A Pawleys Island man has been arrested as a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred on Front Street in Georgetown on Monday, December 23, according to Georgetown Police officials.
Willie Edwards, 33, was charged with armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, kidnapping, carjacking, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and resisting arrest, according to a Facebook post from the Georgetown Police Department.
Police said that a man with a handgun approached a victim, got into the back seat of the victim's car, and demanded money. The victim then drove the suspect to the ATM at the Wells Fargo bank on Front Street, withdrew money, and gave it to the suspect, who then ran away.
Edwards is now in the Georgetown County Detention Center.
"The Georgetown Police would like to thank the public for calling in the tips that led to the arrest of Edwards," the post states.
