$1 million lottery winner in Myrtle Beach says his wife fainted

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach man who won $1 million in the Mega Millions drawing earlier this week was worried how his wife would take the news, and with good reason:

"She fainted," the winner said, according to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

He told her he won Mega Millions when she got in from work, and when she said she didn't believe him, he handed her the ticket to compare the numbers. She blacked out on the kitchen floor.

The ticket was purchased at the Bi-Lo on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, and matched the first six numbers drawn. Had the Megaball matched, they would have won a share of the $648 million jackpot.

But $1 million isn't bad, either.

"I'm blessed and so fortunate," the winner said.

The Bi-Lo that sold the winning ticket received a commission of $10,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, $3.2 billion has been transferred to support educational programs in South Carolina.
