GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - Local Cub Scout Pack 384 had the opportunity to experience life as "shipmates" when they participated in the camping program aboard the WWII Aircraft Carrier Yorktown in Charleston Harbor.

The troop toured the Yorktown, World War II Submarine Clamagore, and the Destroyer Laffey. The scouts also visited Fort Sumter, site of the first shots fired during the Civil War.

"This was such a great opportunity for the boys", said Jeff Pelham, Webelos Den Chief. "They were really impressed with the size of the ship and all the things that you do on board."

"That ship was so big, I was a little bit scared when we got on," confessed scout Townsend Crosby. "It looked like you could get lost for weeks in there. But I ended up having so much fun."

The trip was made possible in part by a generous donation from the Murrells Inlet Elks Lodge.
