FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Republican Congressman Tom Rice will be holding two town meetings December 18 to discuss priorities for the next legislative year.

Rep. Rice is sponsoring a resolution in the House of Representatives that would, if adopted, direct the legislative body "to bring a civil action for declaratory or injunctive relief to challenge certain policies and actions taken by the executive branch."

Rice introduced the resolution late last week. His website on Monday said the resolution, entitled "Stop This Overreaching Presidency," now has 30 co-sponsors.

The lawsuit says the administration has frequently overstepped the limits placed on the executive branch by the Constitution. The "legal action against the President" would be, according to an aide for Rep. Rice, "for ignoring Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution." entitled, "Presidential Responsibilities", states that the President "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed."

The lawsuit notes several examples, including the administrative response to those who lost health insurance under the Affordable Care Act and a policy to granting temporary status to immigrants who entered the national illegally as children.

The resolution would have the House bring civil action against the administration in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia.
