NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Shiver for the Shelter Golf Tournament that took place Saturday, December 7 at Farmstead Golf Links in Calabash, NC collected 7.5 tons of pet food and cat litter for the shelter at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.

Jeffrey Alan Wisnieswki, the Assistant Pro at Arcadian Shores Golf Club and Patricia White-Wisniewski, tournament co-director made it possible for 130 players to participate in the event. Each competitor brought 100 pounds of pet food and/or cat litter along with a $25 registration fee.

"We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Shiver for the Shelter tournament committee, the volunteers from Leadership Grand Strand Class 34, and of course the support of the sponsors and participants," said Sandi Kendrick, Executive Director of the shelter at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. "Based on the number of animals that we currently house, seven and a half tons of food and litter makes a tremendously positive impact."
