MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A company that provides customer support services has announced plans to build a new call center in Carolina Forest, bringing an estimated 600 new jobs to the area.
STARTEK, Inc., is investing $10 million in a project to build a 50,000 square foot customer service support center in the Towne Center of Carolina Forest, which is expected to be completed by fall of 2014, according to a news release. During construction of the facility, the company will operate and conduct employee training out of a temporary space at Horry Georgetown Technical College's Grand Strand campus.
STARTEK's decision to set up in the Grand Strand will have an annual economic impact exceeding $45 million, according to studies done by economists at Coastal Carolina University.
"The best resource we have here in South Carolina is our people, which is why we excel in delivering quality customers service," said Gov. Nikki Haley. "Today we celebrate STARTEK's decision to invest $10 million and create more than 600 new jobs along the Grand Strand."
Over the last two years, the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation has identified call centers as a targeted industry for recruitment to the area. STARTEK's expansion marks the tenth announcement for MBREDC since January 2012, bringing the total announced job count to 1,425.
"We worked tirelessly and have pulled all of our resources together to make this project possible," said Mark Lazarus, Horry County Council Chairman. "With over 600 new jobs, the economic impact of this project is of regional and statewide significant. This is a huge win for Horry County, and it is very exciting to be a part of it."
