CCU Police officer dies after 2-year battle with cancer

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Coastal Carolina University Police officer has died after a two-year battle with cancer, according to a Facebook post from the Horry County Sheriff's Office.

"Our hearts are heavy tonight since learning about the passing of Coastal Carolina University Police Officer Garry Cassidy after a two year battle with cancer," the post states. "We haven't learned of any arrangements as of yet but will pass them along as soon as possible. Please remember his family during this very difficult time."

Officer Cassidy's memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 1 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. Tuesday would have marked his 49th birthday.
