MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Whomever attacked a woman in the 400 block of 28th Avenue North Wednesday evening messed with the wrong woman. The victim has a black belt in karate, and when she was attacked she fought back.

"He put me in a choke hold, and I dropped my dogs leash, and the only thing I could think of was to elbow him in the stomach turn around and punch him in the mouth," says the woman who wishes to remain anonymous.

Today the woman says her neck her sore and knuckles are busted, but she has her life. The suspect took off running toward Ocean Boulevard, according to the police report.

Jason McCormick is the head instructor at Karate World in Surfside Beach. He says what the victim did was spot on but also adds fighting back should only be one in special situations.

"If you are in a situation where you are being held up, it's a robbery and they just want your wallet then give it to them but if it's your personal safety and they are going to assault you and take you to a secondary crime scene then fight back," says McCormick.

The suspect is still on the loose. According to the report he is a white male about 5' 6", 170 pounds with no facial hair and thanks to our victim, he has a busted lip.

"Ladies get special training. Keep an eye out around all your surroundings especially around the holidays," she says.
