BRIARCLIFFE, SC (WMBF) - Briarcliffe Acres Police Chief Kyle Lamparter says officers disrupted an attempted burglary in progress Thursday afternoon.
According to the police report, officers received a call about that burglary shortly after being notified that a group of people was soliciting door-to-door. Residents told police the group told them their trees needed immediate service to avoid a $10,000 fine.
When police caught up with them, 25-year-old Pamela Newsom and 24-year-old Shawn Lewis were sitting in a car in front of a home that 24-year-old Ryan Lewis was walking away from.
All three were detained for the door-to-door solicitation, but then police found a laptop that was stolen from that home.
Ryan Lewis and Shawn Lewis are charged with burglary and receiving stolen goods. Ryan Lewis was also charged with giving false information to police.
Pamela Newsom is charged with burglary, receiving stolen goods, driving under suspension, use of another's or altered license, and use of license plate on vehicle other than vehicle for which plate was issued.
Horry County Police assisted Briarcliffe Acres Police with the investigation.
