CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina is still alive, and getting ready to play once again. This time in a national quarterfinal showdown for the first time ever. The task - defending back-to-back national champion North Dakota State.
The Bison are the number one overall seed, and have been the number one team in the country all year. However, the Chants are coming off of another record setting win, in a second round game at Montana just a week ago. Yet the deeper the playoffs go, the more difficult it will be to advance, and coach is aware of the challenge ahead.
"They are without question the best team in the country," said head coach Joe Moglia. "They deserve to have won two national championships. They're clearly the favorite to win a third. They're ranked number one, they're undefeated. We're going to go out there and give them the best game we can. Then whatever's going to happen is going to happen."
"They try to get in there and pound you and have clock management," linebacker Mike McClure explained of their running attack. "That's something we just need to get in there and stop early on in the game to get them to do a little bit more passing and get them to do something that they're not as comfortable as doing as running the ball."
Saturday's game is set for noon eastern time at the Fargodome in North Dakota. It can be seen on ESPN.
