Florence student shares love of Christ in all she does

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The King's Academy choral group sang Christmas songs at the Florence Christian Women's monthly meeting Wednesday, giving 18-year-old Rachel Coates another opportunity to do what she loves.

"I've always grown up dancing, and I love acting and singing in front of my church or just with this group and so it's really fun to share all the talents that I've been given," she says.

Singing is just one passion of the high school senior. A life committed to Christ is her other passion.

"It puts into perspective what Christmas is really all about," says say. "It's not the presents we get, but instead about Jesus coming."

At just 18, Rachel has already been on two mission trips around the world. She's been to Haiti, Costa Rica and is planning a trip to India in March.

"It definitely shows how blessed we are here in America, and how blessed I am and I realize that when I go to other places."

Rachel is on the National Honor Society at school, she's captain of the varsity cheerleading team, has a 4.8 GPA and is second in class.

"Mostly fighting between the second and third place position, but we are back and forth fighting for the salutatorian position," she says.

After high school Rachel is college-bound. Right now she's trying to decide between five regional schools but says where she ends up she will accomplish what she feel's she's been put on earth to do.

"God has given me that talent to work with kids, and I know that he wants me to use that for his glory, and I know that I love school and I want to share that with kids and I want them to develop a love for learning too."
