Passenger killed in crash on Highway 15 near NC border

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving an 18-wheeler on Highway 15.

At about 4:25 p.m., a Jeep Cherokee made a left turn in front of an 18-wheeler on Highway 15 near the North Carolina state border, said South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Corporal Sonny Collins. The 18-wheeler hit the passenger's side, and the passenger was killed.

The driver of the Jeep, who is under 18, was taken to a nearby hospital. Both people were wearing seatbelts, Collins said. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also wearing a seatbelt and wasn't hurt. No charges have been filed.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the victim as 19-year-old Christopher McLean from Clio.
