Santee Cooper warns customers of phone scam

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Santee Cooper is warning customers of scam phone calls claiming that power will be turned off within 30 minutes if the customer does not make a payment.

This call is not from Santee Cooper, a representative stated on the company's Facebook page.

"If you are contacted by someone identifying themselves as a Santee Cooper employee asking for payment, hang up the phone," the Facebook post states.

Customers can verify if a Santee Cooper employee contacted them by calling (843) 347-3399 in Horry or Georgetown counties or (843) 761-8000 in Berkeley County.
