NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF ) - Local businesses could have their name displayed at the new sports complex the City of North Myrtle Beach is building.
The North Myrtle Beach parks and recreation department says they've received calls from at least a dozen different businesses that want to be a part of it. Council members are looking at sponsorship opportunities.
Prices aren't set in stone just yet, but one suggestion would be full naming rights of the park for $100,000 for five years. The city says so far several banks, grocery stores and hotels have shown interest.
When complete, the $15 million project will comprise soccer and lacrosse fields, batting cages, green space, an amphitheater, a dog park, concessions and more. Officials say it's expected to bring in millions of dollars in just the first year.
"There will be at least an $18 million economic impact from just the events that will be going on in the park just through march first of next year through the end of December," says John Bullard the director of parks and rec.
Bullard also says they are seeing a lot of interest from the community overall.
"For instance last week we did a tree planting in the park and we had over 100 volunteers show up," he said.
The complex is set to open in March, and they already have 65 events booked. Click here - http://parks.nmb.us/ - for more information.
