COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - The Dillon Wildcats have sunk their teeth into another state championship, defeating Fairfield-Central 41-3 on Friday night. The Wildcats finish the season 12-2.
With 6:03 left in the first quarter, the Wildcats took an early 7-0 lead with a touchdown by Damu Ford. The next score came from a touchdown reception by Eri'reon Hayes - his first of three on the night - putting Dillon up 14-0 at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, Fairfield put some points on the board with a field goal.
By halftime, Dillon increased their lead to 21-3, and pulled ahead 34-3 in the third quarter. Anthony Blue's touchdown in the fourth quarter capped off the night for the Wildcats.
Quarterback Avery McCall went 7-12 for 164 yards and three touchdowns, all to Hayes. Senior linebacker and current WMBF Athlete of the Week Damu Ford had an interception, seven tackles, and a 15 yard touchdown run. Anthony Blue also ran for 159 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive coordinator for Fairfield-Central, David Toney, was behind bars during the game. Our sister station, WIS, confirmed he was stopped for speeding en route to Columbia and charged with possession of marijuana.
