Flammable bottles thrown at Myrtle Beach City Hall start fire, witness says

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A witness told police that a fire was started at Myrtle Beach City Hall Tuesday night, apparently when suspects threw bottles containing flammable liquids at the building.

Myrtle Beach Police received a call at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, stating that two subjects had thrown something at City Hall which started a fire, according to an MBPD news release. The fire had been put out by a witness before police arrived, did not enter the building, and did only minor damage to the building's exterior.

The witness said that it appeared that two suspects threw bottles containing flammable liquids with cloth wicks at the windows in an attempt to start a fire.

Myrtle Beach Police and Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue are investigating, and plan to contact the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Arson team, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to assist with the investigation, the release states.

Anyone with information on this case, or the other fires set at several abandoned motels around the area recently, is asked to call the SC Arson Hotline at 1-800-92-ARSON
