Man charged with murder for shooting death of Laurel Hill woman

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – The Scotland County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged murder that occurred Saturday night in Laurel Hill.

An official with the department confirmed that several people were at a house on Old Wire Road when an argument occurred sometime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The suspect got a gun from his car, and then fired towards the house.

Amanda Pearson, 46, of Laurel Hill, died from a gunshot wound, officials confirmed.

Shawn Devenny McLaurin, 39, of Hamlet, NC, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Scotland County Sheriff's Office at 910- 276 3385.

The Scotland County Sheriff's Office is investigating another death. On Sunday morning, a woman was found dead on the side of Plantation Road.
