FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Fire crews from multiple agencies responded to a fire at Palmetto Paving on Williston Road Saturday morning – officials on scene say the building is destroyed.

Crews arrived at about 10:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 from someone driving by that noticed smoke coming from the property at 1115 N. Williston Road, said incident commander Mitch Weatherford with the Windy Hill Fire Department.

Crews from Windy Hill, Howe Springs, Florence City Fire, West Florence Fire and Florence County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, he said.

The building was about 80 percent involved when crews arrived, Weatherford said, and the building is considered a total loss. The fire was brought under control by about 1 p.m. Saturday, with crews continuing to extinguish hot spots.

The building housed a maintenance shop, equipment, stacks of tires, and a laboratory, Weatherford said.

Fire officials are unsure where the fire started, and will investigate the cause and origin. Stay tuned to WMBF News for the latest.
