Carvers Bay, Timmonsville fall in state title games

COLUMBIA - The Timmonsville Whirlwinds finished second in SCHSL Class 1A, Division II on Friday after a loss to Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School by a score of 26-8. Head coach Bill Tate was looking for his seventh state championship with the school.

Timmonsville fell down early by a score of 20-0, and couldn't climb back. Tyquez Young had the only touchdown for the Whirlwinds. Timmonsville finishes the year on a 6-2 run after getting off to a 1-5 start to the season.

Carvers Bay also fell in the SCHSL Class 1A, Division I state title game. The Bears' comeback against defending champion Christ Church came up seven points short.

The game featured six rushing touchdowns in the first 16 minutes of play. The Cavaliers took a 28-21 lead late in the second quarter, and that was the final touchdown of the game. An Israel Davis interception late in the fourth sealed the game for Christ Church.

Carvers Bay, the number one overall seed in the lower state bracket, finishes the year 12-2.
