MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 19-year-old has been charged for driving under the influence in Myrtle Beach, but police were following him for a different reason.
According to a Myrtle Beach Police report, Ervis Dhimo was driving at least 10 miles over the speed limit on 38th Avenue North when police spotted his car around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Police were looking for the vehicle he was driving because of reports that a man threatened patrons at Bourbon Street Bar and Grill earlier in the night with knives and a firearm.
When Dhimo's car stopped a gas station, he admitted to police that he was involved in an altercation at the bar, but denied having anything to drink. The police report states his vehicle smelled of marijuana and alcohol could be smelled on his breath.
After performing field sobriety tests, Ervis Dhimo was arrested on a DUI charge. A breath alcohol analysis performed at the Myrtle Beach Jail determined he had 0.16% alcohol in his system.
