SC Lottery sells 100th ticket worth over $1 million

Below is a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery:

Education Lottery Reports 100 Millionaires Milestone

COLUMBIA, SC (November 26, 2013) – The South Carolina Education Lottery is pleased to report the sale of its 100th winning ticket worth $1 million or more.

The Lottery's Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea calls the milestone, "wonderful not only for the lucky winners, but for the Lottery, its retailers and the State of South Carolina."

Powerball®, Mega Millions®, scratch-offs, raffles, and second-chance drawings for prizes produced 100 millionaires in our state.

The 100 millionaires prize money combined totaled more than $1 billion. Seven won Powerball® jackpots.

Retailers won too, earning nearly $1 million in commissions when the tickets were claimed.

The state benefited from $70 million in taxes withheld from the winnings.

The majority of the millionaires, 44 of the 100, won playing Powerball®.

The first ten years ago when an $88 million jackpot-winning Powerball® ticket was sold in Fort Mill, and the 100th this month on a Powerball® ticket sold in Lexington.

Thirty-six players scratched their way to a $1 million prize. The Lottery's $10 Money Money Millionaire game could easily crown the next millionaire, with one $1 million top prize remaining and a second-chance opportunity to win $1 million.

Millionaires included, lottery players in South Carolina have won more than $7 billion in prizes since the games began in 2002.
