Wood stove apparently causes fire at family home in Florence

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A wood stove apparently caused a fire at a single-family home in Florence Monday morning, officials with the Florence Fire Department confirmed.

Crews were dispatched to the fire at about 7:30 a.m., and found flames and smoke around a wood stove in the home's living area, according to a news release from the department. Crews quickly extinguished the fire in the living area and focused on the attic area, where the fire had spread. The fire was under control within 15 minutes.

Units from Florence Fire Stations 1 and 2 were assisted by the Florence Police Department and Florence County EMS, officials stated. No one was injured in the fire.

"Now that the weather has turned colder the FFD wants to remind all homeowners to have the heating units in your home checked by a qualified technician," the release states. "Remember also the smoke alarms save lives, make sure you have working smoke alarms in your home."
