Strip-club with troubled past gears up to reopen

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Ranch on Highway 501 and Third Avenue South is planning to re-open, according to promoters.

An online flier says it's under new management and new ownership and is supposed to open on Friday, Nov. 22. Horry County says the business license for "The Ranch" is current, but requests made for the owner to call WMBF News weren't fulfilled.

Someone who claims to be a promoter said the business ran into some issues and could open next week. Despite that delay, people were entering the building, and the lights were on Friday night.

Businesses in the area have mixed reactions to the news considering problems at the strip-club in the past.

In September 2012, there were two shooting in less than 24 hours near the club and one person was shot in the face. In 2009, police were investigating claims that a 15-year-old girl was stripping at the club and performing sex acts.

"I think this whole area should close down permanently; there's so much garbage and stuff that goes wrong in the whole area, and we are hoping they close down permanently," Lori Walls said.

"My thought as a business man would be anybody who is operating a business within the law has the right as long as it's lawful," said Rick Walls.
