LUMBER BRIDGE, NC (WMBF) – A man was shot in the stomach while fleeing from two men in Lumber Bridge early Friday morning, said Major Anthony Thompson with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

The 49-year-old victim picked up two men and gave them a ride, then became suspicious and told them to get out of his vehicle, Major Thompson said. They did not get out, so the victim fled his own vehicle on Russell Road. While running from the men, he was shot in the stomach.

After being shot, the victim went to a nearby home for help, and the residents there called 911. The two men fled with the victim's vehicle, Major Thompson said.

Emergency Medical Services took the victim to a nearby hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Major Thompson confirmed there have been no arrests yet.
