Chants advance in NCAA Tourney opener

CONWAY – Sergio Camargo and Jakub Stourac each scored in the first half to lead 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina to a 2-0 win over East Tennessee State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday evening at the CCU Soccer Field.

The win, which improves the Chanticleers' record to 18-4-0 overall, advances Coastal Carolina to the Tournament's Second Round where they will travel to regional foe Charlotte. First kick at the 49ers' Transamerica Field is set for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. The Chants lost to the 49ers by a 2-1 final back in the first month of the season.

ETSU's season comes to an end with a 10-6-4 record.

In addition to the advancing victory, Chanticleer goalkeeper Devin Cook used a four save performance to post his 11th shutout of the season. Cook's 11 clean sheets set the all-time Big South record for single season.

Coastal Carolina finished the game with a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Chants also earned seven corner kicks to ETSU's one.

Coastal is now 4-0 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches played at the CCU Soccer Field with First Round wins in each of the past three seasons. The win also leveled CCU's all-time Tournament record to 8-8-2.
