Golden Apple Award goes to Bridgewater Academy teacher

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Teachers have a big impact on our children's lives; that's why WMBF News is recognizing those who are making a difference.

Deanna Martin is the media teacher at Bridgewater Academy working with all grades. She was nominated for he WMBF News Golden Apple Award by a mother who says Ms. Martin works two jobs but puts her students first.

The mother says since the day her son started first grade at the school, Deanna welcomed him with open arms. She says Deanna exudes passion and dedication with all the children.

Deanna actually went to school to be a Physical Education teacher and got hired on at Bridgewater as a long term sub. She later went to graduate school for Educational Media Design and Technology and transitioned into her current role.

When we asked her about her time at the school, she teared up. "It's been a whole new environment for me and to see the kids thriving, it just brings joy to me so. I'm just so excited. It's overwhelming."

One more teacher will be awarded to Golden Apple Award this year. If you know an outstanding teacher, nominate them. Click here for the nomination form -

We like to surprise them with the award so make sure you keep it a secret.
