Student Spotlight - Phillip Rast

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Phillip Rast of South Florence High School has been preparing for his future in musical theatre.

With his talent to hit the high note ,it is looking like his path to a music career is not far away. As Christmas approaches, Rast is wanting to spread the joy by using his voice.

"Well, I've been singing pretty much my whole life and ever since I was little, I would stand up on a little stool at my grandparents' house and recite Bible verses and sing Bible Songs," Rast said. "It just kind of grew and grew until someone said, 'you should go audition for a play at the Florence Little Theatre."

That is exactly what Phillip did. He started acting and dancing and was even called to perform in the event "Dancing with the Stars of Florence," where he and his partner won the judge's best choice.

Because of that event, he helped raise money for his school foundation at South Florence. Phillip has also been excelling outside of the classroom.

"I take voice lessons, I dance a little bit with Kelly Fine Arts when they need a guy for stuff," he said. "I play in my church youth band, I play keyboard and I sing."

Rast is a part of the show choir, beta club, National Honor Society, and the Student Council. He plans to attend either Coastal Carolina for Musical Theatre or Francis Marion University for Pre-Med.

Phillip has a lot of talents and opportunities coming up and believes that his motivation has come from his family and others.

"They are always very supportive, and all of my friends are very supportive," Rast says. "I just thank the Lord forgiving me these talents that I am able to use for him and for his glory."
