Craigslist crime: Man selling PS4 gets robbed with fake bills

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Hundreds of postings are made on every day, but one posting cost a man hundreds of dollars, becoming a victim of a Craigslist crime.

Already since the release, there are dozens of sales for PlayStation4 listed locally on Craigslist. Some offer to sell the game system for twice its retail price.

Waiting in midnight for the release of the hot new game console, two friends decided to cash in on their patience. They listed the PlayStation 4 on Craigslist the next day.

With so many places being already sold out of the system, they immediately got phone calls from potential buyers.

On Friday morning, just hours after purchasing the PS4, a caller offered to pay $700.

The sellers and buyer agreed to meet at the Carolina Forest Kroger during the day to make the sale.

As the sellers were counting the money, they say they noticed the paper the money was printed on wasn't right.

They called out to the buyer, but say he took off running.

One seller tried to catch up to him, that's when the buyer reportedly pulled out a gun, and the seller backed off.

Officers urge consumers to take caution in buying or selling off of Craigslist. They suggest you know as much about the person you're meeting as possible, avoid going to their homes. If a transaction has to happen in person, officers suggest meeting in a public place, during daylight hours.
