CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A 23-year-old woman is facing charges for unlawful neglect of a child after a neighbor found three children at home alone.

That neighbor realized the children were at home without supervision when a two-year-old answered the door late Friday night. There was another two-year-old and an 11-month-old inside the messy apartment that smelled of gas.

The police report from Conway Police stated the neighbor called the grandmother of the infant when she could not locate the child's mother.

Police located 23-year-old Sabrina Smith at Conway Medical Center. She arrived in an ambulance after reporting stomach pain, and hospital staff claimed she "was in no shape to care for children due to the fact that she was highly intoxicated."

A doctor said she was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine and marijuana. EMS and hospital staff did not know she was caring for three small children.

Once discharged from the hospital, Smith was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Her bond was set at $30,000.
