Firefighters going door to door to help communities

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Emergency Responders are taking to the streets to keep your family safe.

Horry County Fire Rescue is starting a Smoke Detector Installation Blitz, going door to door to inspect and install smoke detectors and the batteries.

"They've always been available, but this is to speed up the program to get detectors out there and help save lives," explained Battalion Chief Jim Walker with Horry County Fire Rescue.

Walking through neighborhoods, HCFR hopes to hit a new area every month until they cover the county.

The service is a free program to all Horry County residents, and provides assistance for battery replacement and smoke detectors for those who cannot afford them.

There is no income verification or credit check, all you have to do is call your local fire department at 843-915-5190.
