LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - Jim Rowell announced his resignation as head football coach from Lake City High School Friday. He met with players and coaches earlier in the day to inform them of the move.
In a statement released by Florence County School District Three, Rowell said, "The program has not progressed like it should have. It's time for me to step aside and let someone else lead the program. I'm proud of what I've done, and I have no regrets."
He will remain at the school as a social studies teacher. Rowell took over as head coach of the Panthers in 2010. He went 21-24 in that time, but lost in the first round of the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.
