Athletes from around the area to compete in 2014 Special Olympics

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Delegation for the upcoming Special Olympics USA Games in 2014 has been announced, and includes several athletes from the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.

Our area has delegates from Conway, Myrtle Beach, Little River, Florence and Pawleys Island. The delegates will be heading to Princeton, New Jersey in June of 2014 to participate in the competitions.

There is also a basketball team from Horry County, a team of bowlers from Conway, Little River, and Florence, a power lifter from Florence, and track and field team from Conway, Little River, Pawleys Island, Georgetown, and Florence.

Columbia, S.C. (November 14, 2013) - Excitement has been building in the Special Olympics South Carolina community. Since the announcement that the 2014 USA Games would be held in Princeton, New Jersey, our athletes, partners and coaches have been training and eagerly awaiting the selection of the South Carolina delegation. Athletes will compete in aquatics, athletics, basketball, bowling, bocce, flag football, golf, gymnastics, tennis, soccer and power lifting.

Team South Carolina will travel to New Jersey June 14-21, 2014 and will enjoy a fun filled week of competitions, meeting athletes from all over the country and getting to explore New Jersey and New York City. Athletes will get to visit the famed the Jersey Shore boardwalk and be treated to a dinner cruise around Ellis Island.

The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will be hosted by New Jersey, June 14-21, 2014.
