HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A student at Hartsville High School was arrested Wednesday morning after a threatening message was discovered at the school.

Hartsville High School administrators received information indicating a possible threat on Monday evening. The school contacted the Hartsville Police Department who investigated and provided extra personal at the school on Tuesday.

Based on the investigation, it appears that no malicious harm was intended, and the threat was unfounded, said Audrey Childers with the Darlington County School District.

The student responsible for the threat has been charged with "disturbing schools" and has been removed from the school, according to Childers. The student will face a school district disciplinary hearing.

"The safety of our students is our highest priority," Childers stated. "The district greatly appreciates the services and support provided by the Hartsville Police Department during the investigation and arrest."

"We take any and all inappropriate or threatening communications seriously," said Police Chief James Hudson. "They will be investigated by the Hartsville Police Department as seriously as any other crime. We appreciate the full cooperation of the Darlington County School District and its staff in this matter. We've always worked jointly and closely with the district, and intend to keep doing so to ensure that all students are safe."
