MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A third man was arrested Sunday in connection with a homicide on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 12, shortly before the body of a 57-year-old man was found in Carolina Forest.
The body of Herbert Woodberry, of Hemingway, SC, was found off Postal Way, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
On Tuesday evening, police arrested Mitchell Monroe Weatherall, 32, and charged him with murder. Joey Raymond Garsow, 24, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact of a felony.
On Wednesday, Weatherall was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and was charged with shoplifting, in addition to murder.
On Sunday, 42-year-old Marvin McElveen, of Florence, was arrested by Myrtle Beach Police in connection with Woodberry's murder, according to online records from the department. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Sunday afternoon and charged with murder. Bail has not been set.
Police are still looking for a 1999 white Toyota Corolla with a paper tag, with red lettering, for evidence purposes.
On Thursday, MBPD Captain David Knipes confirmed that the room where they believe Woodbury was killed had been cleaned before MBPD started their investigation.
Both men were arrested before a body was discovered. However, Captain Knipes released a statement saying "there is reason to believe that a crime did occur." Once Woodberry's body was found Tuesday evening, Captain Knipes said police believed it was the same homicide that Garsow and Weatherall are believed to be linked to.
Police believe that crime occurred sometime between November 1st and 11th at the Atlantic View Motel.
On Monday night, police said a person walked into the police department and told officers that someone had been murdered at the motel.
The police report describes the weapon used in the homicide as a "blunt object."
Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard was unable to release Woodberry's cause of death as of press time.
