Police investigating fire at unoccupied structure in Myrtle Beach

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Police are investigating after Myrtle Beach firefighters put out a fire at an apparently unoccupied structure early Monday morning.

Myrtle Beach Fire Department firefighters and Myrtle Beach Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Fourth Avenue North at about 4:10 a.m. Monday, according to a MBPD report. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire.

A witness that lives behind the structure told officers that at about 4:15 a.m., she heard a loud thump outside her house, and when she went outside, she saw the house next door was in flames. She then heard an electrical "pop" and saw several sparks fly from the structure.

The reporting officer left a voicemail with the property owner. The Myrtle Beach Fire Inspector and a MBPD crime scene investigator responded to the scene.
