MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Warriors basketball team has been temporarily suspended from play.
On their Facebook page, the South Carolina Warriors made this announcement:
We regrettably have to announce that all team play has been suspended for the time being until further notice. We sincerely appreciate all of your support and love we have received from fans and sponsors from day one! This does not mean this is the end nor will be the end of the South Carolina Warriors. Sometimes you have to take a step back before moving forward.
John Newman, CEO of the American Basketball Association (ABA), explained that" The SC Warriors have been suspended for failure to meet ABA standards and requirements, one of which is to play your scheduled games. If a team must cancel, sufficient time should be given so that the opposing team can make plans. The SC Warriors canceled and did not give the other team either a reason or notice. The losers in this situation are the city of Myrtle Beach, the fans, sponsors, press/media, community organizations and the coaches and players. A very unpleasant situation and we are sorry it happened.
"The suspension is not one-year; the SC Warriors can apply for readmission, but it is up to a five person committee to accept or reject the application if made," Mr. Newman added.
The South Carolina Warriors are a professional basketball team based in the Grand Strand.
