CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) - Drew Hummel has resigned from his position as head football coach of the Carolina Forest High School Panthers.
Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton confirms that Hummel resigned from the coaching position on Monday, but remains a teacher at the school.
According to the school's website, Hummel teaches Physical Education and Driver Education. He has worked for Horry County Schools for eight years.
Coach Hummel spoke with WMBF News Sports Director Joe Murano. He said, "I met with both the principal and AD this morning. I told them that it was in the best interest of our players, our school, and myself that I step aside."
"It is just the right move and the right time. It is best for all parties involved. I appreciate the opportunity to be able to coach these young men. I have given it my all here, and I appreciate the support the community has given our program. I just feel it is time for a new voice and that this is the right thing to do for the program, the school, and me personally," Coach Hummel explained.
The Panthers football season concluded on Friday with a loss against the Conway Tigers.
